*hehe* clawfoot and I went on an Alter Ego kick about six months ago and found various versions, but I think my favourite is still playing it on the Apple II emulator.

One of my two current IF projects -- the long form one -- is heavily influenced by Alter Ego.

Oo! That sounds intriguing.

I've been getting more into IF recently. I never used to *finish* games, but just lately I've been finishing some (and still working through Anchorhead -- eesh that game is huge!). I'm glad to have gotten back into it, as I find it very satisfying. I'm going to upgrade my version of OmniGraffle for mapping, I think.

This game has some extremely disturbing ideas about life and relationships.

You mean the relentless heterosexism of it? Or the commercials for psychotherapy? Or were you thinking of something else?

Both of those, but also the brutal sexism; the explicit presentation of romantic relationships (repeatedly!) as being something women should undertake for money (it criticised me twice for missing opportunities to marry rich men), and, most creepily of all, the case scenario where it criticised me for not being willing to go on a romantic date with my father's boss's son. The boss informed me that I'd never work for his firm, it cost my father standing in the company, and the game told me that I'd missed a good opportunity.

Fucked up.

Ooo, I guess I missed those -- on both recent playthroughs, I had just been dumped by my boyfriend when I hit the "go on a date with the boss' son" encounter, and figured it was one more way to meet a guy. I guess I must already have been married or something for the "marry a rich man" encounters. You're right, that is creepy.
