My name is Terrianne Summers. I was a transgender activist in Jacksonville Florida. I was very involved in efforts against discrimination at the Winn-Dixie food chain. I was was shot to death in my own front yard on December 12th, 2001, just days after I participated in the 2001 Transgender Day of Remembrance in Florida.

My name is Raimundo Nonato. I was slashed with a machete in the middle of a public square in Brazil on December 23rd, 2001. My killer did it because he found me "annoying."

My name is Michelle Paz. I was shot four times by police officers in Venezuela on January 11th. Other transgendered friends of mine were fired upon and detained by police in the days after my death.

My name is Bibi Barajas. I was a sex worker in Houston, Texas. I was shot multiple times on January 26th, 2002. Police believe that I may have been killed by one of my customers, who then dumped my body near a local club.

My name is Faye Urry. I was a sex worker, in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. I was found curled up in an enclosed yard in an industrial area of town on February 5th. My killer, Dale William Eliason, turned himself in.

My name is Leonela Parra, and I was from Venezuela. I was shot twice on February 8th, 2002. Most activists in the area say that it was the police who killed me.

My name is Amy Soos. I lived all my life on the Salt River Pima Indian Reservation in Arizona, but I often went into Phoenix in the evenings. After I failed to return home on February 16th, my body was discovered in a roadway.
I died of multiple blunt force trauma.

The rest of the world doesn't know my name, but I was a transsexual woman from the Phillipines who lived in Japan. I was choked to death after being stabbed in the neck and chest on February 25th, 2002.

My name is Anjie Milano. My body -- in an advanced state of decomposition -- was found behind a shopping center in Venezuela in March of this year.

My name is Alejandro Lucero. I was murdered on March 3rd, 2002 in Phoenix, Arizona, and my body was dumped in the alley.

My name is Antonia K. I was attacked and killed in Germany on Easter Saturday, March 23rd, 2002, by a drunken neo-nazi in Eastern Germany after he recognized me as a transsexual. He deliberately plowed his car into me, and I died three days later from the injuries sustained in the crash.

My name is Pilar Ibáñez Carrasco. I met up with an unknown man on a motorcycle on the night of April 5th. Some time later, my body was found floating in a canal in Chile.

My name is Arlene Diaz. I was planning my transition, and was attending a local transgender support group the night I was killed, April 10th, 2002. I was shot in the back, allegedly by Justen Grant Hall. The local police have classified this murder as a hate crime.

My name is Gary McMurtry, known to my friends as "Brazon." I was stabbed to death with a samurai sword in Clintonville, Ohio on May 17th, 2002. My killer may have been Michael Jennings, a former friend of mine.

The rest of the world doesn't know my name, but I was an Indonesian transwoman. I was beaten to death in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 20th, 2002. Some friends of mine discovered my body sprawled on a roadside.

My name is Aretha Scott , known to my friends as "ReRe." Five months before my death, I was picked up by an off-duty vice officer in Charlotte, North Carolina, who fired his service pistol twice during an argument over money. The officer quit during an internal investigation, another officer was fired, and two other officers were suspended. I bled to death after being shot in the leg on June 7th, just five days before I was to be a witness in a hearing about one of the suspensions. Very little has been done since them to apprehend my murderer.

My name is Nguyen Bui Linh, and I was a 14-year-old who was impersonating a female on an online chat forum in Vietnam on July 15th. When the two boys I was talking to discovered I wasn't a 16-year-old girl, they met me and stabbed me in the back.

My name is Raimundo Alves. I was killed by blows to the head, probably with a club. My death happened on July 18th, 2002, in Brazil.

My name is Paola Matos. I had recently moved to Brooklyn, New York after a series of transsexual-related surgeries done abroad. I was discovered in my home by my live-in boyfriend with a white cord wrapped around my throat. I was killed on July 22nd.

My name is Deasha Andrews, and I lived in Jacksonville, Florida. I was discovered in my car on August 8th, 2002, after having been shot several times.

My name is Ukea Davis. I was shot multiple times on August 12th while waiting in a car at a stop sign in Washington, DC with my friend Stephanie.

My name is Stephanie Thomas, and I too was shot multiple times on August 12th, with my friend Ukea. We were only a half a block away from home.

My name is Porfiro Mejia, also known as Daisey, and Flora Blanca. I used to frequent some of the watering holes around Delano, California, near Bakersfield. My body was found on August 20th in a grape vineyard. I died from blunt force trauma to the head.

My name is Sidnei Geber Aguila. On September 1st, I was shot and killed by a motorcyclist on a street in the center of Sao Paulo, Brazil. My killer shot me at point blank range.

My name is Daniel Phillip Redding, and was also known to my friends as "Danielle." I worked at a hair salon in Daytona Beach, Florida by day, and as a sex worker in the evening. I was found face down with a bullet hole in my head in a vacant lot near a church on September 7th.

My name is Ontwon Curtis. On September 13th, I was shot several times in the chest while at home in Newport News, Virginia. Andrew Coleman has been arrested for my murder.

My name is Gwen Araujo, and I lived in Newark, California. I was a 17-year-old who had been living in my preferred gender role for about a year. During a house party on October 3rd, 2002, I was revealed to have been born a male. After this revelation, a number of people beat me, dragged me into a garage, and strangled me, then disposed of my body about 150 miles from home.
