Tractor love

On our way back from Hot Springs, as we were driving on a windy back road through Shelton Laurel, we noticed some crude hand-painted lettering on the side of a barn:

jeff loves darlene

Later, we stopped for lunch in Beckley, West Virginia, and the song playing on the juke box was She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy.

I guess they must really love their tractors up in the mountains....

I was in Beckley a week ago tonight.

I made boy stop driving so I could get us home without incident. People with sudden blood sugar drops shouldn't drive I64 in WV in thunderstorms while surrounded by semis.

Bad memory. I had a car engine die while in the left lane on I64 with a jersey barrier 18" from the line. climbing up a mountain. Fortunately it was not during a thunderstorm, but unfortunately I had power assisted brakes. I still think the only thing that saved my life as my car was rapidly decelerating was that it was a manual steering car. If it had been power steering there is *no way* I could have woven through all those trucks to the shoulder.

Re: *shudder*

BTW, how are things? Are you in Philly yet?

Re: *shudder*
Yup. In Philly for two weeks tomorrow. I almost called you because we were thinking about going to the Dead show in I-forget-where-about-an-hour-from-you the Friday after I arrived, but I decided I was gonna be too zorched to consider the road trip.

Things are fairly good. Everyhting is going slower than I had hoped here, but you know how that goes. (And then multiply by the toddler factor!) It's all coming together, and gonna be beautiful. Already is. =] http://www.samsarra.net for updates.

This coming Friday? I'll be in Toronto, then, for alt.polycon. If you decide that you're not too zorched, why not come up? I'm sure that lots of folks, including me, would love to see you....

Re: *shudder*
Huh? I don't think I've spoken to him about you! I thought it would be a funny surprise, and that the two of you would like each other. =]

I can hear the tires singing
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip.

Me and Laura can hear the tires
singing as we need to go on a trip

I wonder if we will ever manage that
Goose Bay trip we have been dreaming

Either that, or they're the unsuspected last refuge of Socialist Realism. (You know, all those classic Soviet boy-meets-tractor stories...)
