Yay! Free stuff!

I'm a member of the Backpack Gear Test group, which tests and reviews assorted bits and pieces of gear. The group's founder is ridiculously well-connected to the gear industry, and has been able to get them to chip in lots of gear for review.

I learned today that I've been selected to test this pack, which I'd been looking at as a possible alternative for situations when I need to carry more gear... notably winter, which is coming up, and which is going to require heavier clothing, a better stove, a thicker pad, and a tent rather than a hammock. I have their Breeze model, which I use in summer and three-season conditions, but it can't handle winter conditions, and struggles on long trips in dry weather in any season. This should help, and it'll be just in time for winter! Sadly, it's not going to get here in time for the trip that Peri and I will be taking on the Finger Lakes Trail tomorrow and over the weekend.

So now I get to test the Trek for the next six months, after which point it'll be mine. Which means that I need to go hiking a lot over the winter. Anyone want to go hiking?

I'd love to go hiking with you! Unfortunately, I live far away and can't really backpack anymore. :(

I've been on a quest for years for the 'perfect pack' for wilderness SAR... something functional without load/balance issues and that comes in some non-obnoxious color scheme.
