Oh, look! A shiny new meme!

Ganked from several folks on my friends list:

Go browse through my list of interests and pick one that either 1) you know nothing about but sounds intriguing, or 2) you know something about but can't fathom why I would be interested in it, and request an explanation.

Or ask me about a LiveJournal community that I belong to.

Re: What is
"Galla" == priestess of Cybele, specifically a trans priestess. And yes, "gallae" is the plural.

Re: Who is...
Cybele Magna Mater: ancient Phrygian/Greek/Roman goddess of the Earth, of creation, and of wild places. Much of the structure of Christian mythology and ritual was lifted directly from the myth of Cybele and Attis. Cybele was the matron goddess of the Julii Caesares (the Caesars), and became the chief deity in the Roman pantheon after the Principate was established.

Shoujo manga: "girls' comics" -- Japanese manga aimed at a primarily female audience. Shoujo stories tend to focus more on character studies, emotions, relationships, and so forth, and many are very creative. I find them to be a cut above the costumed superheroes of Western comics and the giant robots and martial arts fighters of shonen (boys') manga.

eXtreme Programming: the methodology that my new employer uses, and a generally very sane way to develop software. More information can be found here and here.

Deerfield Academy: a rather prestigious prep school in western Massachusetts, where solarbird and I went back in the 1980s. It's coed now, but it was single-sex back in the day....

Riverbeds of the World: bcholmes wrote a rather good SF story based on a trans spirituality conference that we both regularly attend in North Carolina. There are actually two mountain streams that we go skinny dipping in, both of which are yummy and refreshing.

Attis: consort of the goddess Cybele, died under a pine tree at the spring equinox, and returned from the dead as a goddess three days later. Also the reason why my SRS happened on March 24....
